x files sequel

I know its a promo, that too from the camcording @WonderCon,but its the first look at xfiles 2-so if you are anything like me you are totally psyched out!

Good news - David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be playing Mulder and Scully (respectively ).

Bad news- We have to wait till July 25th to watch the movie

Good news -July 25th we get to watch another episode of the immensely popular xfiles series.

Amanda Peet is also joining this cast.Thankfully,we won't have Agents Dogget and Reyes back.Never liked the replacements much.

The preview is 40 seconds long and show some FBI agents encircling in some frozen ice lake(middle of no where obviously). The leaders keeps shouting "Its Here!"There is some dragging too-of a bloody body(human) and then some dragging of a plastic sheet on ice(alien?).I the end a brief glimpse of "what's there" under the ice.
phew!
All i can say is,its amazing first look-the end of which i was cheering like hell, just like the cheer recorded at the screening

What i don't understand why the promo wasn't released internationally few days after the convention, considering that it will be recorded one way or other! Now we have to wait for the original trailer to take breath away, again.I mean x files ran for 10 years and has a loyal sci-fi base too ,how did they expect to keep it under wraps? And why?
For those of you who want to catch the trailer, its somewhere on youtube-its been moved thrice in a week (The last time it was called the wearwolf is back ).Good luck!

The promo is here for now
Few hours and it will be gone, make use

Atlas Srugged -the movie

Ayn Rand's book is once again being attempted to be made into a motion picture!
If anyone has read the book, irrespective of one liking it or hating it (Somehow her work always seems to attract the extremes) one can reach an agreement that this isn't a book that can be easily adapted.Besides the length of the book and the evident monologues that are integral of the philosophy, the challenge is going to be making people view world the way the protagonists saw it.I really don't think how the awe of the steel factory working in the night or the torch of oil burning at the end of the railway track ,can be captured visually!

Considering the fact that Atlas Shrugged was the first book of Rand I read and at an impressionable age,I am a little biased towards the subject. I was filled with awe, wonder and a sense of mystique at the way Dagny looked at the rails or Rearden at his Steel. Some People eh!

THE Movie
Vadim Perelman would be directing the movie. Considering he had experience with adaptations with his "House of Sand and Fog" (Which didn't bring disgrace to the original novel!),I am beginning to believe, this just might work!

Angelina Jolie is going to play Dagny Taggart, but considering its too early in production,it might change.
*I am glad that Ms.Jolie also feels that this is one those rare books that if not made right shouldn't be made at all!
The Important Question
Who is John Galt?

So who would play the leader that would sweep everyone away?
As of now i can't think of a single name that could play him (Or Reardon for that matter).I am sure the Professionals would come up with good names though!

I want bread

Apparently finding good bread in my neighbourhood call for the IMF, ah well i am a pretty good agent and the day was saved! (Though it took a full 3 hours of me going to every other store that stocked food and asked for fresh ,nice, brown bread),making it official
Brown Bread - Holy grail number 5

I finally paid visit to the friendly neighbourhood makeshift Video rental .Its amazing how they pack these cd's these days in plastic bags,to be hiked at the moments notice of attack of the lawful brigade *grins*. I didn't find the movies i wanted but still ended up with 3 ,its like kids at Disneyland, everything seems fantabulous with enough clowns and costume guys! Gonna make Will Smith woo me for the 4th time killing zombies(Though my favorite was when he played the smart cop accusing robots of murder, the aliens punching wasn't bad either).

PS - On the subject of zombies, best friends shoot their friend when he turns into a zombie.period.

Adaptations,Inspirations and the Likes

Movies nowadays seem to be all about adaptation. All the creativity is being put into picking up the form to adapt into a movie. It does take a lot of effort to pick the right biography, anecdotes, books or even graphic novels! Gone are days where people came up with intelligent puzzles to make thrillers or wrote ‘fictional’ characters that seemed so real. Now we just leave it to Time, someone somewhere will do something seemingly impressive and Viola we got a movie. So writer some where breaks his skull to blissfully form a new protagonist and Bingo we go a movie! Pardon me for being so excited by this new way of making movies, can’t help since the impressive list I made of good movies in the past years looks somewhat like this

(Most of the Oscar 2006)
Brokeback mountain
Munich
Capote
Walk the Line
Elizabeth
North Country
The Constant Gardener
Memoirs of a Geisha
(Now 2007)
The Queen
Last King of Scotland
Departed (though from another movie, adaptation nevertheless)

The Dark Knight
Wanted
Atonement
300

I too like good movies and definitely think the ones named deserve their recognition but hell I would like to see a healthy percentage of original fiction characters, events, stories that I can relate to!

snippets

I think two most dangerous words used nowadays are -GREATER GOOD!
If someone uses that to persuade you, slap him and run fast the other way.Period
There is no great or less good in Greater Good...all it means is "Hi, You have to do something,it seems insane, evil and corrupt but trust me it will do good in future..Okay?"..No shit
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
X:why ,offlate You look at the glass HALF -EMPTY always
M:I deny vehemently ,I look at the galss FULL-EMPTY!

I once had a surrogate fish i called Survivor, for the obvious reasons that i didnt eat or got eaten by the other fishes in the bowl. One day it jumped out and no one noticed

Movie crap alert!

Just watched the promo of a new Eros movie- Sunday
For the first few seconds it felt like a worthy rental ,boom!, i realized it a remake, not of a flashy Hollywood but a Telugu film! If you watch Telugu films you probably would have heard of Anukokunda Oka Roju- a personal favorite of mine. It was a well made (i mean really well made) thriller with a good sense of humor! All the characters thankfully possess the minimum level of common sense that uplifts them from moron ground. I am pretty sure the remake would be a mockery of all the good aspects of the film..yikes!

Anyway here are few spoilers taht won't spoil the fun :P
Ayesha Takia - Lead Protagonist (Charmee's role)
Ajay Devgan - The usual real life cop (Jagapathi)
*EDIT Arshad- the taxi driver (The dude from Aithe)
Tusshar-May be one of the friends of Ayesha from the buliding
Irfan Khan - Guessing is the nautanki wala (we loved him rite!)

Special song Isha Deol my guess is for the version of I wanna sing

PS- Its a audio- visual massacre i would love to spare myself of!
I remember watching a "children's movie" named sunday as a kid...all i remember is the kid travels to weird places in a sunday and eggs sunnyside up!

good ole times

We hosted lunch for our maama today. Its some traditional brother-sister ritual! Since mom was planning a relatively extensive menu for lunch,i ended up having breakfast @ local dosa center. Barring the unfortunate incident of a missing chutney packet, the takeaway was tasty.

Noon came and as this lazy bones was trying to shake off the drowsiness, maama, maami and bhayya arrived, dot on time or a little early.Heck. And then began the best sound of my life six voices all talking at once ,possibly about 4 different topics. I love this part where everyones trying to figure out who is talking to them and about what! Since we still had an hour to spend before lunch, gup chup began to flourish! With a little aid from the cable network, everything from Diwali cracker local black market to the cultural diversity of Paris was discussed. After a healthy number of reviews were exchanged about the latest movies, eateries and e-shopping all eyes were on the idiot box.Poor thing under the pressure of expectation ended up showing only repeat telecasts!!..ah the pressure to perform is damaging. We had the ask of choosing between watching POTC-2again or tolerating Mi3, Jack sparrow won! (Tom Cruise+ Repetitive style* of JJ had to lose one a sunday!). Captain Jack and the rest of crew (including the mutant octopus) provided a comforting background score.

The meet was going great, i got know of good places to but pirated dvd's and finally a place to have royal faluda (I badly miss faluda at shalimar!). We got to share the diwali rangoli pics and tales from work.Yeah the usual. It starts with my cousin "my boss is crazy",me going "wait till you hear of mine "and then my dad, maama saying you kids think you have to complain..."we have war wounds"

The lunch was accompanied by a new wave of queries about food and discount on retail...well we got to cash in on diwali ..who doesn't? "Is the non-stick pan's 20% discount better than getting free Kadai?" or "how the hell your milk don't get spilt while making the sweet?"
Thankfully we had this wonderful movie on air, which amazingly all the parents present seem to admire like hell (and for once me and my cousin had to shut up since we were clueless)

Apparently come september is a big hit with our folks. We can't talk at the start because the music accompanying the titles is a hit (and it only comes that once). After that we voluntarily waived our rights to talk, the movie was lovely! Man i found a worthwhile company to Gregory Pck,Rock Hudson.*

Hudson is beyond good looking,he is charming .Add to that his splendid voice! The commercial breaks brought with it
me"I cant believe i havent seen this guy till now."
Couz"Movie is so funny"
maama:"Is it paris"
me dad"italy?"
mom"what a track"
maami "big hit""
Me"i cant believe you folks never mentioned this ,we talked about roman holiday all the time"
Couz"thats a great movie"
All" ah peck and hepburn :sigh:"
Me"I still cant believe.."
dad cuts it to say "Don't be ridiculous, we introduced him to you ,ice station zebra"
Me"that was him, in my defense i was not even 10 and all i remember of it is i loved it and ice and submarine"
....
And so dined the families in the ambiance of great food, movies and chat *grins*

*If anyone watched even a single episode of alias you would have expected MI3,man Hunt could have been Bristow easily!
** Planning to watch few others of my new "rock"star..any suggestions(Besides come September and ice station zebra)

What better way to end the day than with a plate of chole batura and Corr's Lough Erin Shore *bliss*

The Dark knight

The cast is finalized, the posters are out,the debates have begun!! Lets join in the fun!*

Being a Batman fan, i must say i was delighted when Bale was scheduled to play the part.He fit the part of troubled Bruce Wayne perfectly in Batman Begins! And the movie itself was well made, true to its name,it told how it Began! the villains played their part just like the allies.I liked the touch where they didn't turn Rachel gal into love interest. All this success ensured i have credible expectations from the next in line.

Here is what we know
Heath Ledger is cast as Joker(hinted at the end of the first movie)
He is gonna be accompanied by Two Face, played by aaron eckhart
Katie Holmes wont be back as Rachel Dawes, its gonna be Maggie Gyllenhaal
Christopher Nolan,Morgan freeman,Michael Caine,Gary Oldman are back.

I have my doubts about Ledger, what can i say Jack act is tough to beat("Gentlemen, broaden our minds"-lol).My bet is he pull another Grim'm' performance...argh!..Tommy was crazy two face but i think Aaron might do something good(i rather hope)...coming to katie declining a pay increase ,ah well..she got the Tom bug (the expert on psychology) Maggie was great in Monalisa smiling, but somehow i don't prefer her as Rachel.

There are numerous speculation that Rachel's arc will end in hands of one of our new bad boys!(most say Dent).A fair shot i think,i actually like the idea too!Fits into the Dark Knight transformation!

I always wondered why they didn't call at least one movie dark knight in that whole Batman Movie franchise, since Nolan did it i am not going to complain about him *grins*Just keep the fingers crossed and hope Bale looks even more irresistible(he had great talent since he was just a kid in japan) and the movie fantabulous..amen to that

*One check out the still sand posters on warner bros site and google images!

Where have all the slashers gone?

I was bored for sometime.Ok I was really bored. So what did “really bored me “do?
Well, found a slasher movie on HBO,
Watched a lot of blood and gore for sometime,
Swapped channel for the commercials,
Missed the ending of a crappy movie!

Now what is more sinful than watching a stupid horror film?
Not watching the ending of the stupid horror film!
So went online to fin spoiler alerts,
And man did they discuss the film or what!
In short either the film was pseudo-intellectual or really stupid!

Moral of the story: Stupid slasher films are more fun when you start debating the ambiguous ending!!

We did have our fair share of good slasher movies.
Man SCREAM was damn good (especially since I filed to guess the killer),
I know what you did…was OK but created a cult against death pacts,
THE HITCHER(the 80’s one) and UL were good with popcorn,
SAW was a frigging great jigsaw puzzle,
SCREAM 2 is refreshing as it actually develops the character (yeah remember character –unicorn of slasher films :D)

They don’t make Scream’s any more…Wes now makes Red eyes with its pathetic endings!! Whats up with Hollywood,Just look at the Oscar list of past 3 years amongst others…they are either making Biographical movies or movies based on real events (walk the line,Ray,Capote, zodiac,Elizabeth 2,American Gangster?) or remakes of tv series, novel adaptations or mythologies(Transformers, Assassination of jesse james…)

SoI Ask Where have all the slashers gone?..Yoo Hoo directors bring back to the desolated buildings, deserted gas stations, teenage schools, wide freeways on Screen!

Until then, its looks like Rental is our savior!

PS- This post and 2 hours prior to this post are dedicated to the movie “Rest stop”. Do participate in the poll if you were bored enough to watch it

So what exactly happened?

  1. They were ALL dead,(it’s a purgatory moron)
  2. All dead except our girl (Yeah the cop,the 71 gal were ghost puppets”
  3. Girl is definitely crazy (like our director?)
  4. All dead and she is caught in the crazy circle for all eternity
  5. Mission :get truth out of John Shiban (well we can go to Hollywood, held him for ransom-the actual plot of the story!)

They earned it!!!-LIST 1

There are more than 2 ways to get lost...I mean one need not be obnoxious to be asked to get lost nor the event be forgettable...one vanishes from memory unintentionally, titles buried under piling information, and simply therez apathy!!
I have periods of paranoia at times. This is not one of those. But this is when i get skeptical about human race and do my part by reclaiming the place of few worthy ones...its more like reassuring myself to optimism!!
And since i am penning this after a 48 hour wake up (of course it took naps of 4 hrs in between..i can't do drugs)....i starting with my first list of worthy titles

OF all the trash bollywood manages to churn out each year, few actually stick their way out of the crap...here's a blog to those contemporary movies
  • Hazaaron Khwaeisein Aisi- Dir:Sudhir Mishra....An awesome film about Love, Ideals,Pragmatism,Power and Bravery (Indeed)...Three characters evolve ,mature and find themselves during the emergency era (That's rite , then on-mythical era which people seldom mention nowadays!!!)
  • Kal-Yesterday and tomorrow - A finely made drama/suspense. The best part are again the people in the film, real, grey and raising up to the task in spite of their vanities.
  • Morning Raaga - This actually can be called a well paced entertainer.Amazing soundtrack and Shabana Azmi are few of the strengths of the film about strangers united in common grief and finding Closure!!
  • Khosla ka Ghosla - This is a real entertainer , novel script, funky filming (same goes for tracks-Chakde pattay for example), and engaging (rangeen) characters!! Addressing the turmoils of the middle class Kher trying to figure out the Khabja of his land...A real good catch this one is
  • Ek Chaalis ki last local-- This is the best dark satire i have seen in quite a while!! Amazingly original story, dark characters with the local flavor (the tamilian cop) and a quite few double crossings makes this a very engaging film!!
This list is no way definitive of the last 4-5 years but definitely the films are!!!

TBC,
